Desde mis poemas (From my Poems) (1983): A personal anthology that includes an introduction: As a General Comment. This introduction, together with Reflections Upon My Poetry (1985), make up an essential poetic statement and an original revision of the conceptual principles that define and structure the poet’s first four poetry volumes. They are crucial for the understanding of his world view and the relevance of the connections between poetry and life.
Desde mis poemas, author’s edition, Madrid: Cátedra, 1983, 260 p. (Letras Hispánicas, 175), includes the titles Gift of Inebriation, Conjurings, Alliance and Condemnation, and The Flight of Celebration; further editions: 2nd, 1984; 3rd, 1990; 6th, 1999.Claudio Rodríguez, in Pedro Provencio, Poéticas españolas contemporáneas. La generación del 50 (Contemporary Spanish Poetics. The Generation of the 1950s),
Madrid: Hiperión, 1988, pp. 165-180.Poesía como participación (Poetry as participation) (1992): this essay is a clarifying meditation on poetic participation and its relationship with love. It also deals with the danger of writing immersed in materiality and adventure, with the commitment to live between authenticity and clarity of style.
Poetry as participation is a speech given on March 29, 1992, on the occasion of Claudio Rodríguez’s appoint as a member of the Royal Academy of Language. It was replied by Carlos Bousoño. Madrid, Real Academia Española: Ayuntamiento de Zamora, 1992, p. 65.La otra palabra: escritos en prosa (The Other Word: Prose Writings) (2004): This volume collects his prose writings as a literary critic, a lesser known but equally exciting facet. The volume also sheds light on his own poetry. In addition, it contains articles on other authors, interviews, and his academic dissertation on children’s folk songs, which make its reading highly recommended. Editor Fernando Yubero highlights the opportunity to observe the evolution of Rodriguez’s thoughts, his rigorous analyses, and the lucidity and depth of his judgements and opinions about the literary specific aspects in which he is mainly interested, due to their connection to the poetic fact.
La otra palabra: escritos en prosa, edited by Fernando Yubero. Barcelona: Tusquets, 2004, 242 p., (Marginales, 226).Adventure: poemas póstumos (Adventure: Posthumous Poems) (2005): This book is a facsimile edition of what would have been his sixth work. The empty space Rodríguez left to complete the book will never be concluded. However, the publication allows us to discover the eleven poems which are already written despite the possibility of future corrections. Such poems offer us an approximate idea of what the final version of the book would be like, and of the poetic tension which remain unchanged since his first book. Previous versions, including corrections and deletions, present an unknown aspect of Rodríguez: that of his creative process. This is a curious aspect for his readers, while the critics will find it of great worth.
Aventura: Poemas póstumos, facsimile edition by Luis Garcia Jambrina. Salamanca: Tropismos, 2005.Poemas laterales (Lateral Poems) (2006): In Luis García Jambrina’s view, Lateral Poems is the name that Claudio Rodríguez gave to those poems not destined to be included in his five books. In fact, the author intended to collect and publish them under this title someday, parallel to his main poetic career. Most of them are homages paid to poets, or to painting and sculpture. The first poems, before the publication of Gift of Inebriation, were added later. In the “Excluded Poems” section there are three texts which were originally going to be included in Gift of Inebriation, Conjurings and Alliance and Condemnation.
